Ivan Svetlik, the current Ljubljana University Chancellor, only found out about the bonuses a few months ago. He called these bonuses "an irregularity", as there exists no legal basis for these payments. It appears that the matter will be taken to court.
The chancellor’s office decided not to take action against the deans. According to law, the recipients have to repay the bonuses they earned over the past nine months. Three faculties (Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Computer and Information Science) did have rules on standby bonuses, but inspectors found that there was no legal basis for these rules.
The chancellor regrets that those who have been on 24-hour standby, e.g. information engineers, will have to return the bonuses they received.

Svetlik said that legislation designed to cap bonuses had already been drawn up and could be passed this spring.
