Radio Slovenia reporter Danijel Poslek said that two explosions were heard within the space of about ten minutes. Everything went according to plan, and the controlled explosions had no adverse impact on the environment. The bomb was first enveloped in protective wrapping and then moved from the backyard of a residential building to a pit in a forest 30 meters away, where it was destroyed. A part of the bomb remained intact. Even though it poses no danger, it was moved to a safe location, where it will be destroyed.

Out of precaution, the authorities evacuated an area within a 1 kilometer radius of the bomb site. Because many people are on vacation, around 100 people had to leave their homes for several hours. After a hectic day, life is returning back to normal for the residents of Vurberk.

The 250-kilogram bomb was found near Vurberk Castle by a local resident. The man decided to move it to his backyard, and only then did he contact the police. “The man was indeed very lucky, this could have ended really badly. He could have inadvertently set off the bomb,” said Igor Boh of the unexploded ordnance defense unit. The bomb was dropped by a U.S. aircraft in February 1945 because the allied forces thought that the castle housed the headquarters of the 31st SS Division.
