Slovenia's health system is solid, said the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe. She highlighted financing and healthcare organization as areas which need to be addressed. She also warned that reforms have to be carried out prudently.

After meeting Mrs. Jakab in Ljubljana, Slovenia's Health Minister Milojka Kolar Celarc pointed out that that due to the numerous unresolved issues and scandals, we have overlooked the fact that our health system is among the best in Europe.

Jakab presented the National Council with the main conclusions of a recent WHO analysis. She stressed that Slovenia's health system was solid and very good in ensuring universal health insurance. She warned though that health costs must not rise. A focus on prevention, health promotion and long-term care will also be necessary. "Investing in healthcare pays off. It is an investment and not an expense. It brings positive economic, social and environmental effects," added Jakab.
