The main objective of this care is to provide relief of physical and psychological symptoms, to help with spiritual and social distress of a patient and to provide help with solving everyday problems.

In the hospice in Ljubljana a Slovenia-wide campaign started yesterday, which wants to encourage people to reflect on the fact that many people need care even before getting old or being on a deathbed.

Palliative care is an established practice abroad and has been used for several decades. In Slovenia this important care was introduced just a few years ago in a hospital in Golnik. A new department of palliative care will open its doors in Šempeter in Nova Gorica on Monday.
