Almost half of the drivers breath-tested under a preventative project called 'Čista nula' or 'Purely Zero', tested positive for alcohol.

The tests were carried out last weekend by the Varna Pot Institute at mobile centres in Ljubljana, Murska Sobota, Kranj, Velenje and at a number of other smaller locations.

1,800 drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists were tested over the two-day period.

Just over 13% of those were above the legal limit of 0.037 mg of alcohol per litre of breath.

The institute said that they would continue their efforts to make sure that more people are completely sober behind the wheel.
