The International Biathlon Union finalized their decision today, that the Slovenian winter sports center Pokljuka will host the 2021 Biathlon World Championships.

Pokljuka was competing for this position against Russia’s Tyumen 2016 but lost the opportunity. In 2017 the Tyumen venue was canceled because of doping and corruption allegations against Russia. Therefore, leaving Pokljuka as the only candidate.

In the 2020s Slovenia will host three major sports events: The Biathlon World Championships, the 2020 Ski Flying World Championships, and the 2023 Nordic World Championships.
