Slovenia has sent emergency aid to Croatia, following an earthquake in the capital Zagreb this morning just after 6.20 a.m.

The urgent assistance was requested through the EU's Civilian Protection Mechanism.

Among the items sent were large tents, sleeping bags and heating equipment, as well as financial assistance.

Prime Minister Janez Janša visited the Croatian capital today. He spoke with his counterpart Andrej Plenković this morning.

Defence Minister Matej Tonin also arrived in the city along with the necessary supplies.
