The programme of the summer cinema at the castle will start tonight with Salt of the Earth directed by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, and already on Friday the premiere of Far from Men directed by David Oelhoffen will be screened. The films will be on until July 25, including three premieres.

The introductory film of the Cinema under the Stars, Salt of the Earth is a documentary portrait of the one of the greatest masters of reportage photography Sebastiao Salgado, who rediscovered hope in nature after all the atrocities he had witnessed. He is now dedicating himself to preservation of environment, and to discovering still unspoiled parts of the world. The film was chosen by the organizers because of the approaching year 2016, when Ljubljana will become the green capital of Europe.

From blockbusters to Liffe hits
Cinema under the Stars at the castle courtyard is being jointly organized by Kinodvor and the Ljubljana castle. During 24 consecutive summer nights spectators will be able to see the winners of the film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, and Venice, films which attracted the largest audience in Kinodvor, and the hits from Ljubljana international film festival (Liffe).

Some of the films have been chosen which are the most appropriate for watching under a starry sky, e.g. Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan, Mad Max: Fury Road directed by George Miller, and Benedikt Erlingsson's Of Horses and Men. Among the chosen films there is also the animated film on Shaun the Sheep, and the attention-grabbing documentary on Edward Snowden, the Oscar-winning Citizenfour.

The first premiere of this year will be on already on Friday. Far from Men directed by David Oelhoffen is a free adaptation of the Albert Camus short story The Ghost, the music was written by the old team - Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. The story, set in 1954 just before the beginning of the Algerian war, speaks about a teacher (Viggo Mortensen) from a remote mountain village who has to accompany a farmer (Reda Kateb) to the colonial court to be tried for murder. A strange alliance slowly emerges between the two seemingly completely different men.

Should a screening be cancelled due to rain, tickets can be exchanged for tickets for another screening, or the money will be reimbursed.
