During his trip to Madrid, the President of the Slovenian Football Association (NZS) Rade Mijatović visited one of the best goalkeepers in the world, who has yet to play for Tomaž Kavčič’s team. According to recent speculation, Oblak was offended because Kavčič selected Bojan Jokić and not him as the captain. However, NZS reports that Oblak’s absence was due to health problems and that he will play for Slovenia in the future.

He did not demand the captain’s armband
According to NZS, the meeting was cordial and pleasant. Jan Oblak presented his views of the national team and explained his absence from the team’s recent games: “He explained that he never demanded the captain’s armband, but that he would be willing to accept it with great honor and responsibility.” according to NZS’s statement, “Oblak never made his appearances conditional on being named captain. He emphasized that his recent absence was a result of his health problems.”

Jan Oblak has apparently decided to continue playing for the national team: “Based on our conversations, it’s obvious that Oblak is committed to the national team’s success and believes that the team is capable of qualifying for the European Championships.” On October 13 and 16, the national team will play games in the Nations League; in the first game, they will face Norway, followed by a home game against Cyprus. Slovenia lost the first games of the competition, against Bulgaria and Cyprus.
