Many people, e.g. police officers, firefighters, healthcare workers, Ljubljana bus and taxi drivers, workers in the tourism industry, caterers and musicians, will celebrate New Year’s Eve at work.

Despite the ongoing police strike, top police officials maintain that public safety will not be compromised on New Year’s Eve. Firefighters will also be on duty. Over the past few years, they had to attend a number of fireworks-related calls. Healthcare workers will also be on high alert, as many people tend to drink excessively on New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s will be busy for caterers and those working in the tourism business. It will be busiest for those catering at major events, many of which will be covered by journalists.

Ljubljana buses to run all night
Buses in Ljubljana will run all night but less frequently between 23:40 and 3:50, i.e. every 40 minutes. A total of 25 workers of LPP, Ljubljana's public transport company, will spend New Year’s at work.

Power utility Energetika Ljubljana provides electrical power, heat and natural gas 24/7. According to JHL (Public Holding Ljubljana), employees tasked with ensuring that the region’s power supply is consistent will spend New Year’s Eve at work. Emergency crews will be on call. Vodovod-Kanalizacija, Ljubljana’s public water utility, said that their emergency crews will also be on call.

Snaga, Ljubljana’s garbage utility, said that 23 employees will be sent out to clean the city’s streets after New Year's celebrations. According to JHL, public toilets will be open until 3 a.m., and four workers will be on duty to take care of them.
