Nanos is a plateau popular among people who love nature and nature's beauties, and sport enthusiasts practising hiking, climbing, and mountain cycling.

In order to attract more visitors, the members of the Tura Sports Club and the Mountaineering society Vipava suggested tourist marking of the plateau. They intend to place signposts and tourist information boards, and arrange sightseeing points. The project was presented to Vipava councillors, who were in favour of the initiative.
Outdoor sports practiced in nature are gaining popularity, and that's where the initiators of the project for markings at Nanos see the opportunity for development of tourism. Dejan Koren from the Tura Sport Club, Alpine and mountain guide with an international licence, brought the idea from abroad. They would like to mark all the existing trails at Nanos. "In this way we would attract hikers, mountain cyclists, in one word – ecotourism. We should have enormous panoramic boards. We have wonderful spots, e.g. St Hieronymus Church, Nanos glaciers, five or even more in number, the Botanical Hill… It is our intention to make a brochure and a map which would lead cyclists and hikers through the plateau." Koren explained that three years ago the climbing areas Vipavska Bela and Gradiška tura had been arranged and marked, with a visible result: "The number of climbers and the so-called outdoor tourism in connection with climbing have substantially increased at both areas."
The value of the project of tourist marking of the Nanos plateau is 30,000 euros, excluding labour cost, as the members of the local sport and mountaineering societies would volunteer their work. Urška Grmek, director of the Institute of Tourism TRG Vipava, explained that an agreement had been made with the municipality to allocate funds from the local budget, in the amount of approximately 10,000 euros, for the basic signposts and the brochure, while they will try to obtain the remaining part of the necessary funds through available tenders.
