Unuk played well from the very start of the tournament. She played 11 chess matches. She played best in the second part of the tournament when she took the overall lead. Today, in the last round, she won the world title beating her Iranian opponent, Derakhsani Dorsa. All together Laura Unuk won 8,5 points.

Despite her youth, Unuk has been a member of Slovenia's female national team for two years now. She lives in Ljubljana and plays for the Komenda chess club. This year she started collecting gold medals two months ago, when together with Ivana Hreščak, she also won the Under-18 European team chess championship title.
