"We made it abundantly clear to both Slovenia and Croatia that we are not taking sides in this dispute. This bilateral problem must be solved by the governments of the two countries, which are both members of the EU and Nato, and we are confident they can find the solution," was explained by the State Department Press office. In Croatia the press release by the American Embassy in Croatia was understood as a support to the Zagreb decision to withdraw from the arbitration with Slovenia. Some analysts even made assumptions that in this way the USA are putting pressure on Slovenia for its alleged leniency towards Russia.
The National Safety Council refrained from commenting this topic and advised that the questions should be addressed to the State Department, which however did not respond to this particular question.
