On Monday the organizers of the Slovenian Miss Universe pageant surprisingly announced that Nina Đurđević handed over her crown to the first runner-up Sara Savnik. Although organizers declined to disclose the main reasons behind the "voluntary" handing over of the crown, it could be understood that the breaking of the rules and not fulfilling the duties and obligations of the contract mostly had to do with the now former Miss Universe’s dishonesty about her education.
A reminder: Nina Đurđević stated in her presentation that she studied at the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor. She later explained in MMC's chat room that she would attend her 4th year of studies at the Berlin Charite University through an exchange program. Shortly after (on web portals and through web comments) rumors came up that the statement did not hold water and that nobody even knew her at the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor. It turned out the rumors were true, and shortly after that an official statement from the above mentioned faculty said that they had no such student enrolled under that name.

Nina later stated that she studied at the Charite University in Berlin, but a statement from Berlin said she wasn't even enrolled there.

After the handing over of the crown we talked to Kaly Kolonič, a co-organizer of the Slovenian pageant. She explained that as organizers they did not intend to start checking whether every girl gives them the correct facts. She said that "every girl guarantees the authenticity of the given facts with the signing of the contract".

Why did you take away the title from Nina? As it can be read from one of the statements of one of the organizers, Nina breached some of the provisions of the contract. Which provisions did she breach?
The agreement to step down was reached because she breached provisions of the contract. Another reason was the Nina Đurđević, as Miss Universe Slovenia 2013, failed to undertake the duties and obligations that go with the title.

Did you take away her title because of the complications with her education?
Primarily because she failed to keep to her duties and obligations as Miss Universe Slovenia 2013.

How did Nina Đurđević accept taking the title away from her?
Nina voluntarily handed over the title, the sash, and the crown.

The title is now passed on to her first runner-up Sara Savnik: considering that the world pageant in Moscow finished a few days ago, what’s Sara’s main task going to be? Or is this just a symbolic handing over of the crown?
With the title Sara will receive all the Miss Universe Slovenia 2013 prizes, including the prizes from our sponsors and the whole 20.000 EUR tuition for the Zagreb School of Economics and Management. She will also take over all the duties and obligations of Miss Universe Slovenia 2013, which are not just a few, until the next pageant in 2014. We could say that with the end of the world miss pageant, the promotion of Miss Universe Slovenia 2013 has only just begun. Sara has accepted her opportunity with both hands.
In the future do you plan to conduct stricter controls of the facts given by girls at miss pageants?
By signing the contract every girl guarantees the authenticity of the given facts. Therefore it is unnecessary for us check every given detail. Apart from that every individual contestant who sends in a filled out form and signs the contract has a moral responsibility. We are also thankful to all you journalists, who are doing a remarkable job, and have once again showed to the Slovenian public, that you are worth your name. I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you once again.
