Around 40 schools in the country will remain closed for a second day due to power supply problems and cut off roads.

Most of the closed schools are in the region near Postojna in Central Slovenia. A number of high schools will also remain closed, including three in Postojna, and one each in Jesenice and Velenje.

Yesterday the Education Minister Jernej Pikalo said that the safety of those going to schools was a priority. He also added that schools would substitute the missing days on upcoming Saturdays.

In the region most affected by sleet and ice, the municipal offices in Cerknica, Logatec and Postojna are closed. Many banks and cash machines in the Notranjska region are also not working.
