Milan Brglez remains the President of the National Assembly. 22 MPs supported the motion for his dismissal, while 51 were against it. The motion was made by the SDS Party for his decision to reject referendum initiatives.

During the discussion the SDS Party MPs blamed Milan Brglez of arbitrary action without legal standing. Branko Grims demanded that the President of the National Assembly should explain on which law or legal act his decision had been based, and where had he obtained the authorisation to make the decision whether the referendum initiative constituted misuse, or not.

Eva Irgl said that the action of the President of the National Assembly was a dangerous precedent for the democracy. She found it hard to believe that in this case the Constitutional Court would agree with the President of the National Assembly. "Should the number of signatures requested by the law be collected by the citizens, it is your duty to carry out all the procedures. That's the purpose of your function. Your function does not mean that you can act as if you were the Sun King himself," the MP said.

Zorčič: SDS is just settling accounts with the coalition
Igor Zorčič (SMC Party) defended the President of the National Assembly and said that in that particular case the initiators of the referendum were disputing laws with no influence whatsoever to their situation, and were even admitting it. According to him Brglez made an appropriate decision, and that the session obviously had a political dimension: to settle accounts with a person from the coalition, acting as the President of the National Assembly.

Dušan Verbič (SMC Party) explained that rule of law does not allow executing rights when opposed to the purpose those were given for in the first place. Why allow a referendum the purpose of which would be to paralyse the state, and prevent the National Assembly from functioning, was the question posed by Jan Škoberne (SD Party). "It is true that the procedure rules, but when it is abused, misleading, or misused, such reign is far from good," he said.

Franc Jurše (DeSUS Party) said that the President of the National Assembly by making such decision took upon himself huge responsibility, and that it shows courage.

Brglez: It's the Constitution that is crucial
Brglez is convinced that the motion for his dismissal is a political act. He emphasized that in our state the Constitution should be crucial; it should be read and respected by everybody, "and the spirit of the Constitution should be obeyed, and not the letter".

Only SDS Party supports Brglez's dismissal
Among the parliamentary groups only SDS Party's group supports Brglez's dismissal. Not even the other two opposition parties, NSi and ZL, are against it. Both groups consider the Constitutional Court competent for deciding on adequacy of Brglez's action.
