mix of potassium and morphine. The UKC has already suspended the doctor.

According to reports from the Delo and Dnevnik dailies an 83-year-old patient, who had lost consciousness after a heart attack, died at the hospital in mid-December. His heart failed after a fatal mix of potassium and morphine was injected into his body. The doctor supposedly acted with the approval of the family. In any case the above-mentioned patient would have died in a matter of days.

"In any case the patient would have died in a matter of days. He was no longer conscious. He suffered a big stroke and had other health problems as well. But that still doesn't give the right to any doctor to intentionally end someone's life," is what M.D. PhD Jože Balažic said. Mr. Balažic is a pathologist and president of the hospital's oversight commission, who reviewed the patient's files.

The Director of UKC Ljubljana, Sergej Hojker, said the doctor was immediately suspended after information came out of a suspected case of unlawful euthanasia. The police was also notified and an investigation by the oversight commission is under way. The hospital's internal investigation will be concluded in a few days and more will be known then.

Euthanasia is regarded as murder and the case is also being investigated by the Ljubljana Criminal Police Directorate. "We can confirm that Ljubljana's crime police officers are investigating a suspected act of crime from the chapter of Offences against Life and Limb of Slovenia's Criminal Code. The criminal investigation has been underway since December 2014 after a health institution filed the report," is what the Ljubljana police explained.
