Dragomir the Great is the Funky Dragon of Ljubljana, extremely happy to be mentioned not only as a memory preserved in this area for more than 2,000 years. And he is indeed a constant presence, reminding me of the hidden, forgotten things I would like to do, but then don't for this or that reason… The Dragon likes people, and occasionally spits a joke or two just to make us feel better.

The new trade mark of tourist souvenirs named Dragomir Veliki (Dragomir the Great), the Funky Dragon of Ljubljana offers a number of items – magnets, bedcovers, cups, pillows, keychains, bottles, scarfs and caps …

"The Dragomir Veliki products are well designed, yet deliberately very simple, aesthetics being achieved by black india ink on white paper. The role of white paper is e.g. taken by a white t-shirt, a cup, a bottle, cardboard … The background, i.e. the product, must be very simple, basic, and affordable," Alenka explained. And how do they decide on a product? "The refined criteria demand that a product can be considered a good idea for a souvenir or a gift, the price must be affordable, products must be simple, something we need/use; they must reflect the urban character, and must be made locally."

They paid their tribute with souvenirs also to Jože Plečnik, the great architect. Alenka's co-worker Mojca Janželj Tomažič from the Kontrastika Studio explained in which manner: "The task subtitled a Tourist Souvenir immediately calls to mind the architect Jože Plečnik, whose name is inseparably connected with Ljubljana. It is reflected in the typography used for letters in Dragomir's name – we used the typography used at the (Plečnik's) market; they actually remind of a dragon."

They started selling the products in summer. Are they satisfied with the response of buyers, tourists? The immediate response was excellent, also because they started offering them at the peak of the tourist season, and also because they were well received by sellers, Alenka explained. "In large measure sale of souvenirs depends on the manner sellers present it to tourists. Most of the sellers are truly enthusiastic about the fresh addition to the existing offer, and infect the others with their enthusiasm."
