After five years of waiting, and more than half a year of construction, one of the crucial road connections in Istria is finally modernized. The mayor of the Buzet municipality Siniša Žulić is pleased: "Our municipality and the Istria peninsula are getting a good road connection with Slovenia, which is of great importance for the entire region in summer tourist season. It is very important for the economy as well. Buzet has always been gravitating towards Koper, and both craftsmen and businessmen are very satisfied."

The renovation of the section of seven kilometres will be finished within days. During tourist season the additional obstruction of traffic is prohibited. There is however one section left, Žulić announced: "We still have to obtain a permit from the Ministry of Tourism for works to be performed after June 15. In that case we intend to continue with renovation of another section – at the border crossing 200 metres of support wall must be constructed."

The border crossing Sočerga-Požane is a good alternative for crossing the Slovenian-Croatian border. When there are long queues of tourists at Dragonja and Sečovlje crossing, the traffic is running smoothly at Sočerga-Požane crossing. "I am convinced that after the renovation this road will be much better exploited," Žulić said.

Our Ministry of Infrastructure plans renovation of the road to Sočerga after Croatia enters the Schengen area.
