The blessed fire has several meanings, according to Father Silvin Kranjc. He said the fire for us symbolizes life, but at the same time also means death. For those of faith, Holy Saturday is when final preparations for Easter get underway. Easter is believed to be the day when Jesus rose from the dead. The ones with faith sprinkle their homes with blessed water and the smoke from the blessed fire.

A special Easter ceremony of the blessing of the Easter foods is also known by the Orthodox believers. It is not, however, known throughout the world, according to Professor Silvester Fabjan. He also said that the dishes have a dual purpose, first to deepen the Easter faith and also the symbolism they hold. Fabjan said believers find the dishes to be reminiscent of the crucifixion. He noted that the red Easter eggs symbolize drops of blood, horseradish symbolizes nails, and the potica cake is a symbol for the crown.

In Catholic churches, they are preparing for the evening's vigil. The Easter vigil in Vatican will be, as is tradition, led by the Pope Francis in the Vatican Basilica.

Easter fire is also lit by Evangelicals on Holy Saturday. For them the fire means bringing light and predicts joy. Evangelicals also prepare Easter dishes for Easter breakfast, but they do not bless them. Easter is this year celebrated at the same time by Catholics, Evangelists and Orthodox believers.
