Dentists in Slovenia will examine oral cavities of patients for free in September. Cancer of the oral cavity is on the rise in Slovenia. It’s ranked in 8th place among other most frequent types of cancer.

More than 250 dentists across Slovenia will enable preventive examinations for free in order to detect early malignant changes.

Officials say that cancer of the oral cavity in the population of elderly men ranked in 6th place among other types of cancer, but the number of cases in women and younger adults is also on the rise. It accounts for 2 to 3 percent of all malignant tumors occurring in Slovenia. For example in 2010 around 250 cases of oral cavity and throat cancer have been detected. Most cases of that type of cancer are associated with tobacco and alcohol use, with an increased risk in people who consume them together.
