It took five years to translate the whole book published in the 17th century in German in 15 volumes. In the book its author Johann Weikhard von Valvasor wrote about his homeland Carniola - present-day Slovenia and Croatian Istria. He wrote about the history, customs, folkore and geography of the region.

The Slovenian translation, done by the Debenjak family, was officially presented to the public at the Bogenšperk castle where Valvasor also wrote the book.
