The Old vine in Maribor is the oldest living specimen of grape vine that still produces grapes. The 400 year-old vine produces between 35 and 55kg of grapes per vintage. This is enough fruit to make around 25 liters of wine that gets bottled in small 250ml bottles and given by the city council of Maribor as ceremonial gifts to dignitaries.

The Old vine is a very old Slovenian wine grape variety titled Žametovka (also known as žametna črnina or modra kavčina). The harvest began today at 11AM.
