“He took Slovenia far – and raised it high into the sky. He created a series of thrilling moments and gifted them to Slovenian sports fans, who are so rarely united. In the true style of a champion, he managed to take home very possible honor – and he did it with restrained but honest humbleness. He ended the season with a Telemark jump at this year’s ultimate celebration of sport – Planica. The skis he had donated to a child sponsorship project were sold at a charity auction for a breathtaking 45,000 euros. We are proud of him and we hope we’ll remain proud of him,” said Val 202’s editor-in-chief Mirko Štular at the award ceremony.

Mina Lavtižar, Prevc’s girlfriend, accepted the award – a mosaic by the artist Janez Mučič – on Prevc’s behalf. The ski jumper addressed the attendees by video: “I’m profoundly grateful that I have been named Person on the Year. Actually, I’m honored and surprised. When I saw the list and filled out my ballot, I would never have placed myself that high because the candidates included so many people with exceptional life stories. All the people on the list either experienced unbelievable stories or are still creating them. I extend my congratulations to all the nominees. And wish everyone Happy Holidays and a successful 2017.”
