The news was confirmed by the Director of the Emergency center in Belgrade, Zlatibor Lončar, who led the treatment of the former First Lady of Yugoslavia. Jovanka Broz was taken to the hospital on 23 August. She was brought to the center in a critical condition due to an inadequately treated skin cancer.

Jovanka Broz was born on 7 December 1924 in Lika (Croatia). She became Tito’s wife in 1952. Since his death in 1980 she lived in almost complete isolation in one of the villas in Dedinje. The Serbian government will respect her wish and bury her in the tomb of Tito.
