A group of citizens wrote to the mayors and district councils, calling upon them to forgo this year's firework and rather take the money they would have otherwise spent and use it for a charitable cause. One of the instigators of the action, Petra Meško told MMC, that the responses were mostly positive. She noted that although larger municipalities ignore them, the Facebook list of municipalities that are celebrating New Year’s Eve without fireworks is persistently lengthening.
Because of this reason, you will not see any fireworks if you are spending your New Year’s Eve in Ptuj, Nova Gorica, Slovenj Gradec, Celje, Kranj and Novo Mesto.
