The predictions of Jože Stegne, the head of Delavska hranilnica, the owner of the Maribor Airport, thus remained unfulfilled. In the end of August, after his meeting with the mayors of the Podravje municipalities, he optimistically predicted that Adria would fly as long as somebody would be willing to cover the loss caused by the possible lack of profitability of transportation.
"Presently the Maribor Airport is covering the loss," Stegne said at the time. But the managers of the Maribor Airport have obviously made their calculations and established that it would be too risky to continue the flights during winter months, although during the summer the number of passengers was quite satisfactory.
Although the mayors were in favour of establishing a risk fund, into which the municipalities would invest almost 600,000 euros, the procedure will take time, and prior to acting the local communities are expecting the cooperation of the tourist economy.
