Parenzana was 123 kilometres long railway connecting 33 Istrian settlements, leading from Trieste to Poreč. It operated from April 1, 1902 to August 31, 1935. It has been transformed into a trail intended for cyclists, hikers and runners.

Big ambition
Srečko Gombač from the Histrion Society, managing the Istrian Parenzana Museum, estimates that in the last years they "have managed to transform the abolished railway line into one of the most successful tourist trails in this part of Europe".

He explained that tourists coming to our countries became somewhat more demanding. "Now they don't come just to eat something, and jump into the sea. They are interested in heritage, in history." That's the main reason they are trying, within their activity, to offer to visitors as many such experiences as possible. And although a lot has been done during the last decade, Gombač is convinced that in future new ideas will arise, and the present offer in connection with Parenzana will expand.
