The show marks the 100th anniversary of his birth. The director of the gallery Zdenka Badovinac says that the exhibition will bring new insights and a new evaluation of the artist's work.
Stupica is considered to be one of the most important personalities of Slovenian and Yugoslav art of the 20th century. His last retrospective in the Museum of Modern Art was organized in 1968.
Many of the works have been borrowed from various institutions in the former Yugoslavia. The exhibition’s curator explained that the display represents the dynamics of the artist’s development and the turning points in his work. It consists of 130 paintings and 170 drawings, including tempera and watercolors on paper. The exhibition will be on display until May 15.
