Radivoj Uroševič, the boss of the Police Trade Union of Slovenia (PSS), said that each officer decided on his or her own to take some time off work. He added that the decision had nothing to do with the ongoing police strike.
Not everyone was allowed to take time off, since police officers are tasked with ensuring safety. The General Police Administration told regional police chiefs that a sufficient number of officers must be present to carry out the duties they are obliged to perform by law. Hence, some police officers have been redeployed to ensure public safety.
