Candidates have until the 10th of September to gather signatures and announce their candidacy. Foreigners who live in Slovenia but are citizens of EU countries are allowed to vote in local elections. They can also serve as councilors.

But while they are able to vote for mayors, they cannot serve as one without Slovenian citizenship.
