More than 800 workers staged a 2-hour strike in the Velenje coal mine, Slovenia's biggest mining operation. In Trbovlje-Hrastnik around 200 miners staged an 8-hour strike.

However, negotiations in the Trbovlje-Hrastnik mine have not begun yet. The mine's strike committee said that the industrial action would be stepped up next week if their demands are not met by Friday.

One of the demands from both actions is better pay. In Trbovlje-Hrastnik, they also demand severance pay for 135 redundant workers.
