Ten days ago the documentary film of German ARD television raised a lot of dust. The film concentrated on fixing the results of football matches, and as suspicious mentioned also the game between Maribor and Brugge which ended with the result of 3:4.

The match at Ljudski vrt stadium will be remembered mostly because of the partial result 3:0 for the Purples, and consequent spectacular turnabout by Brugge resulting in a great victory with 4 goals against 3. The former UEFA collaborator fighting against fixing the results claims the match had been sold.

Stinner slandered Maribor
"The evening before the match one of my sources from Balkans told me to pay attention to that match," said Rudolf Stinner, a former member of the UEFA disciplinary body, for the broadcasted documentary. Stinner remembers very well the events from two years ago: "I was told that 20 minutes before the end of the match large sums would be paid on the victory of the guest team from Brugge. Thus Brugge had to score 4 goals in last 20 minutes of the match, as Maribor was ahead 3:0."

Maribor reacted to these allegations with indignation. They announced their intention "to fight against persons who are sullying the name of the club using all the means available."

UEFA reacted quickly, and in less than a fortnight announced no irregularities were found.
