The current acting director general, Andrej Baričič, whose employment ends today, decided to resign after four months in office. His decision came after the government said it would not support his naming to the position. PM Miro Cerar said Baričič had shown that he was not capable of assuming such a post.
The wish is to find an excellent untarnished expert of the health system, someone capable to do away with corruption and malpractice, humanize relationships and know how to lead 8.000 people. Those are big wishes. But the first thing that needs to be done is put in place a new management system, is convinced the long-time head of the Health Insurance Institute, Samo Fakin. If that is not done, the search for the new head of UKC Ljubljana will only be prolonged.
"I think the UKC needs a bigger team, which absolutely needs to be upgraded with mechanisms already existing in the economy sector. The salaries of the management should be tied to their achievements. The UKC should also be transformed from a public institution into a non-commercial entity," says Fakin.
