Joseph Mussomeli, the American ambassador, had spoken to the press a few days ago and announced the unveiling of a plaque at the U.S. Embassy dedicated to all the victims of totalitarianism - both those who fought against Nazism and against Communism. In his speech he said that Slovenes have gotten their country without a major fight. He added that if Slovene people had suffered a Valley Forge or Gettysburg battle they would appreciate their country more. He furthermore said that all Slovenes should really be more thankful for their country. The Slovenian Foreign Ministry has called him for a meeting over his statements.
