In 2023, we are going to give the opportunity to extremely successful and exciting musicians in Slovenia. The decision on the internal selection was not hard to make. The band Joker Out has dominated the Slovenian music scene for the last few years.

Even though the Joker Out members are young, they can already boast a little about their impressive achievements. Their songs are repeatedly on top of the Slovenian music charts; their concerts are sold out and always evoke a euphoric response; musical experts praise them, and they have a rather impressive list of awards.

Their song will be presented to the public in a special show on the 4th of February 2023.

Members of the group see their performance at the Eurovision Song Contest as a big challenge and an opportunity: “All members in the band are big fans of the Eurovision. It is our wish to perform there for some time now, but we were waiting for the right moment. Although we are young, the fast progress of our career has brought us loads of experience, motivation and creative energy: we are ready for this challenge. Regarding the style of music present at the Eurovision Song Contest – we need to say that it is well past being defined or limited to just one genre. We are staying true to our distinctive Joker Out sound, no matter where and when we perform.”

Acting Managing Editor, Entertainment, Vanja Vardjan: “We decided to use a tried and tested form of national selection, namely the internal selection. This year, 12 different countries shall choose their contestants this way. We have chosen Joker Out, who, like Magnifico and the bands Siddharta and Big Foot Mama before them, bring good quality popular music to the Slovenian music scene to the delight of the broadest of audiences. We were looking for a good sound and popularity, and I’m convinced that we have found them.”
RTV Slovenija is happy to see that this project will connect the Entertainment Division and music department of the Val 202 radio channel to an even greater extent: Žiga Klančar, Head of Music Department at Val 202: “Joker Out are the most played artists, therefore the decision to choose them as Slovenian’s Eurovision Song Contest representatives was sensible, and has our full support. We look forward to all future collaborations.”

TV Slovenia Director, Uroš Urbanija: “We are happy that RTV Slovenija continues its participation at the Eurovision Song Contest, despite some second thoughts. Even more, we are offering our currently best-selling artists to European and global audiences. They have been able to connect with Slovenian audiences extremely well, hence I have no doubts that they will do the same at a European level.

British ambassador to Slovenia, Tiffany Sadler: "Many congratulations to Joker Out – I’m looking forward to seeing them take the global stage in Liverpool next year. In a different time, we’d be celebrating in Kyiv – so I’m proud that Eurovision 2023 will be hosted in the UK on behalf of Ukraine, as a symbol of the world’s support to Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression."
