Bled is one of the greatest tourist jewels of Slovenia. The image of a small island in the middle of the lake with the castle atop of the mighty cliffs are two popular sightseeing spots making this Alpine pearl known all over the world. Bled Castle, offering a fantastic, breath-taking view of the surrounding area, is one of the oldest in Slovenia. At the World Tourism Fair in London this year, Bled was declared the best sports place in the world.
The costal town of Piran is full of museums, including Mediadom Pyrhani, a multimedia museum and cultural centre which opened in 2015. The centre uses state-of-theart technology to introduce visitors to Piran its rich history and cultural heritage of the city.
PUPPETEER EKA VOGELNIK
Eka Vogelnik is a versatile artist – a painter, an illustrator, a set designer, a costume designer, a director, and, above all, a puppeteer. The world of puppets in Slovenia is marked with distinctive, authorial puppets. So far, Eka Vogelnik has created over 50 such puppets, and considers her favourite her marionettes.
THE KAMNIK MAJOLIKA WINE PITCHER
The town of Kamnik has been famous for its ceramics for over 150 years, and its hand-painted wine pitchers hold a special place among Slovenian ceramics. With its striking shape and painted decorations, the Kamnik majolika is quite unique. It is still one of the town’s distinctive symbols and a popular souvenir from Slovenia.
THE CUISINE OF THE BELA KRAJINA REGION
Equally impressive as Slovenia's geographic diversity with its Alpine, Mediterranean and Pannonian worlds, is Slovenia's diverse culinary heritage. The Bela Krajina region, know for its traditional cuisine, was the first in Slovenia to have its traditional dishes, including the Bela Krajina cake, protected.
