ŽELEZNIKI
Železniki is a small village in the north-west of Slovenia with more than 500 years tradition of ironworks. The ironwork trade disappeared at the beginning of the 20th century; however, an old blast furnace, the iron house and museum collections still testify to the activities related to ironworks there. At the end of the 19th century, it was lace-making that began to gain prominence in Železniki and this craft is still alive there today.
ANIMATOR ŠPELA ČADEŽ
The work of the author of animated films for adults, Špela Čadež, has lately been thrilling both her audiences as well as juries at film festivals around the world. Her latest short film, Nighthawk, has made it to the competition programme of the famous American Sundance Film Festival, and to the largest short-film festival in the world, held in Clermont–Ferrand in France.
PHOTOGRAPHER LUKA ESENKO
Luka Esenko is a well-renowned landscape photographer who is also engaged in the organization of photography workshops and photo trips for tourists. It was Luka who started with these so-called photo-travels in Slovenia. These are custom-made specialised tourist activities designed for photography enthusiasts.
THE POMELAJ RURAL DEVELOPMENT CO-OPERATIVE
Over the last decade, the Pomelaj Rural Development Co-operative has been active in Prekmurje, the north-easternmost area of Slovenia. This initiative has become an employment centre catering for vulnerable population groups, in particular for the disabled. In this region people have always had a very good sense of making things out of what nature has to offer, and the Pomelaj co-operative also helps in keeping the old skills from sinking into oblivion.
KUD AMPUS
A group of young people from Tržič spends their spare time in a rather special way. They design costumes and props from famous fantasy films, such as The Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit. It all started during a carnival season when their decision-making on what costumes and masks to wear gave rise to their own creativity.
