The Police have not disclosed the control points, which are not permanent. Occasionally the control is performed at all the seven former crossings at the border with Hungary, and tighter control of especially multi-purpose vehicles within the Pomurje region. The control at the green border is tighter as well.

No official explanation has been given yet regarding accommodation of refugees. In Lendava the possible locations are the former plant of Mura, Integral, and the speedway stadium.

Fourteen refugees applied for asylum
Presently 26 foreigners are staying at the Aliens Centre in Postojna, including 14 citizens of Syria who were apprehended a week ago in the vicinity of Lendava after crossing the border illegally, and whose return to Hungary was unsuccessful. All the 14 refugees today applied for asylum, said the head of the Aliens Centre Jože Konec. Their applications written in the Arabic language will be translated and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will decide on their application.

He explained that the Aliens Centre is intended for foreigners who came to Slovenia illegally, and the Police cannot remove them from our country immediately. "It is our duty to receive those foreigners, provide for them, and accommodate them, and complete the procedure for returning them. It means we have to establish the identity of a foreigner, obtain documents and remove them from our country," he explained.

They are given financial aid
This year until the end of August 309 foreigners were accommodated by the centre. The average duration of their stay is 17 days. Presently citizens of Somalia, Morocco, Algiers, Syria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Brazil are staying in the centre. Up to 300 beds are available; if case a larger number is needed they can quickly provide lodging for additional 100 aliens.

"We never force aliens back to the countries where their life or their freedom would be endangered, or to the countries where they might be exposed to torture or inhuman treatment; in such cases the law on aliens explicitly forbids us to remove them forcibly from Slovenia," Konec said.

The aliens who have their own money must participate 20 euros per day for their accommodation in the Centre. However most of them have no money, or spend it otherwise, therefore the state carries the burden of their accommodation.

If they make a voluntary decision to return to their country, or go to any other country, our authorities help them with the necessary documentation, and transport to the chosen country. They are also entitled to up to 2,500 euros of financial help from the European fund, which they can spend on lodging, or for starting a business.
