Diplomats serving at the foreign embassies in Ljubljana and foreigners living in Slovenia will write blogs for the MMC News in English site. After Jaime Hilton, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, next in line of our bloggers is Jose Antonio Morales, a Peruvian national.

It is funnier to picture the moment when the long eared extra-terrestrials express their greetings for first time: “live long and prosper” in the middle of the Kongresni Trg in Ljubljana.

After showing the aliens the quality of the Slovenian wine, beside the River Ljubljanica, we would persuade them to share with us knowledge and technologies that would allow the Human race to abolish poverty, eliminate currency and finally live in peace respecting our environment.

In that scenario, the Aliens would have made contact with ordinary citizens. They would definitively get many invitations to enjoy the beautiful Slovenian nature. The next day the press would announce to the world what had happened, and many official authorities would be marching fast towards many protocoled gatherings.

After a few embarrassing discussions, Ljubljana would replace Brussels as the capital of the European Union. Then the alien ambassador would share her first message to the entire planet Earth:

Dear Earthlings, we have come in peace to share with you the knowledge required to protect your species and your environment. Before proceeding with the knowledge transfer we need you to honestly answer one question: What are the obstacles you found on the way while practicing The Universal Declaration of Human Rights?”

Many would understand that message as a threat to our global interests. Corporations and Governments would come up to protect what is dear to the Human race. Decorated buses, toys, and designer hats would show allegoric messages as: “We can govern our own planet!” or “Global warming is an Alien invention” and “Earth’s oil belongs to us!”

Others would understand the message as an opportunity. Many entrepreneurs would share free apps and publish Web sites to help gathering the answers from every Wi-Fi enabled corner or the Earth.

A few days later the Alien Ambassador would receive a huge database with answers to her question; every Human interest would have been represented. The entire database would have to be scanned and consolidated. In front of video cameras and streaming live, the Alien Ambassador scanned the data and ranked the results. The Ambassador proceeded to read the list of the top 10 obstacles we need to resolve in order to make The Universal Declaration of Human Rights a reality. She ended up saying: “Our mission has been accomplished, we shall come to visit you again when you will be ready to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

Would that mean that we have the knowledge and technology to solve our problems?
