The boy’s room immediately filled with thick smoke. The fire quickly spread along the upper floor, which was completely destroyed by the flames.

Kamenik’s family dog called Snoopy woke the sleeping boy to save him from the fire. The boy, who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, was taken to the Slovenj Gradec General Hospital but was released from the hospital this afternoon. Snoopy was not so fortunate.

"The dog woke me up when he bit me a little and licked me. As soon as I woke up, I saw my dog shaking, and I realized that something was wrong. When I looked back, the only thing I saw around me was smoke," explains Miha Kamenik.

Miran Korošak from the Ravne na Koroškem Fire Department described the event: "When we arrived at the scene, we saw black smoke coming from the house, the owner explained with urgency that their dog Snoopy was still in the apartment."

"Two teams were fully equipped to explore the premises. We found the dog but there was no sign of life. He was a hero of a sort, because he had saved a life."

Massive damage to the house
As Miha’s father Aljoša told to TV Slovenija, material damage is high, but the family will be able to fix it.

"My son called me, saying the house was burning. At least the other son collected enough to call the firefighters. They came to the scene and helped extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, we couldn’t save our puppy," explained the father.

Smoke was also fatal for Piki, the family parrot. Neighbours and friends immediately came to the aid of the Kamenik family, and fire watch is currently under way.
