The arrests are the result of an international criminal investigation which has gone on for months. In March, the police found that the Slovenian and foreign suspects rented out bigger houses in which they placed foreign nationals from Asia restricting their movement. The suspects later set up computer systems in the houses, through which the victims were forced to take part in illegal activities and international telephone scams at the expense of other foreigners.

The police admit that this is the first such case connected to human trafficking in Slovenia, when the victims are forced to take part in telephone scams. Until now, such victims were usually forced into prostitution, sexual abuse, or forced into street begging. The police did not reveal the number of people who have fallen victim to the telephone scams, but according to our sources the number is well above 30.
