The Czechs have never had much success at the Eurovision Song Contest. They only participated in 2007 and 2009, garnering a total of 9 points. However, they never made it past the semi-final stage. This year, Gabriela Gunčíková improved the country’s poor track record.

The 22-year-old songstress enlisted the help of Slovenian director Uroš Trefalt for the video to her Eurovision entry “I Stand”. Trefalt is also part of Gunčíková’s team in Stockholm. “Uroš is an incredible director and a very talented person. He’s been with me from the beginning. He was there when I recorded the song. I’m really glad he’s on my team,” Gunčíková told MMC after her performance.
