"I was unable to work in such a negative environment. I wish Olimpija all the best in future. They can always count on my help should they wish it. Time will tell what kind of a team have we made at the last transfer period," Stojić explained.
Stojić's leaving was the consequence of the poor start in the summer part of the national championship. Olimpija's team was changed during the winter break, but in the four rounds they fell behind Maribor by nine points, and most likely lost the chance to fight for victory in the championship.

The first (indirect) victim of the changes made by Stojić was the trainer Luka Elsner, who was replaced by Marjan Pušnik. Now the president of the club Milan Mandarić decided Stojić must go as well. "I would like to thank Ranko for his effort. I wish him good luck and success in future. In Olimpija we are focusing all our energy into the team, the boys in green jerseys, and we are not interested in anything else. Above all we need a little peace. We have no intention of searching for a new sports director, we have enough competent people in the club," Mandarić explained.
Stojić came to Olimpija with Mandarić in summer 2015. In April 2016, he had to leave because their visions differed, but in October last year he came back to the club as vice-president. When Nenad Protega left he again took the position of the sports director.
