Ljubljana airport is named after politician Pučnik
Did you know?
Most airports in capital cities are named after local heroes or former leaders. Ljubljana airport is one of the few named after a politician who never led the country. Whereas, say, Charles de Gaulle was a famous general and prime minister of France, Slovenia’s Jože Pučnik was a politician and intellectual, seen as one of the fathers of independent Slovenia. But he never served as president or prime minister. He retired from politics in 1996 and died in Germany in 2003.
