AIK banka already owns about a fifth of shares from the Kranj-based bank. Unofficially, Kostić has already negotiated with Sava, a Kranj-based rubber manufacturer and one of the major stakeholders of Gorenjska banka, to buy its 37.6% stake. As today's announcement indicates, the offer for the takeover of the remaining shares will be announced within a month’s time.

The sale of the stakes in Gorenjska banka to the Sava company was imposed by the Bank of Slovenia in September 2015 due to compulsory settlement, withdrawing its voting and management rights in the meantime. The owners of Sava – with the Slovenian State Holding, Kadom and the York Board at the helm – will make a decision regarding the approval for the sale and transfer of assets at an assembly.

Gorenjska banka ranks seventh in the balance sheet total among banks in Slovenia. In late September this year, the bank's total assets reached 1.73 billion euros, which amounted to a market share of 4.7%. In the first nine months of 2017, the bank increased its total assets by 14.6 percent, while generating a net profit of EUR 4.7 million during this period. At the end of last year, the bank had approximately 400 employees.
