The winning song of Slovenian song festival 2018 "Slovenska popevka" is Če pomlad nikoli več ne pride, (If spring never comes again), which was sang by Alex Volasko. In the final, it received the majority of the votes from the audience.
Songs is the final were determined by the overall scores of the jury in the category of the best song, which then qualified the the next round of the competition. The audience decided which song was the winner of the 42nd Slovenian song festival by televoting.

The winning song received 34.94 percent of the votes, the second-placed is Canegatto with a song called Samo mirno, samo dalje (Go calmly, go further) and he received 34.21 percent of the votes, the third-placed is Lea Likar with a song called Z očmi zaljubljena v maju (In love with our eyes in May) and she received 30.85 percent of the votes.
At the Slovenian song festival 2018 there were also: Flora Ema Lotrič - Pijana od ljubezni (Drunk from love), Uroš in Tjaša - Odgovor že poznaš (You already know the answer), Gregor Ravnik - Ti si (You are), Nika Zorjan - Za vedno (Forever), Andraž Hribar - Stari most (Old bridge), Nastja Gabor - Tisoč in ena zgodba (A thousand and one story), Matjaž Kumelj - Živim na pol (I’m only half alive), MJAV - Tak moment (Such a moment), Manca Špik - Kot bi te kdo ustvaril po meni (As someone created you for me), Rene Markič – Naprej (Forward).
All performers performed live while being accompaniment by the RTV Slovenia orchestra, the festival ensemble and with a conductor Patrik Greblo.

Nuška Drašček, the winner of last year’s Slovenia song festival, introduced us into this night full of music. She reminded us again of the song Tak dan (Such a day). The singer Nuša Drašček and TV presenter Mario Galunič guided the audience in front of the television and radio through the evening, and they also recalled the memory of some evergreen songs, such as Ljubljanska ulica (Street of Ljubljana) by Majda Sepe, V Ljubljano (To Ljubljana) by Marjana Deržaj and Lastovka (Swallow) by Elda Viler.

The festival ended as a mini-anniversary, because it has passed 20 years since they reopened the festival in 1988. The performers were: Katrinas, Eva Černe, Alenka Godec, Anika Horvat, Darja Švajger, Nuša Derendain Marko Vozelj, who were also the winners of the previous Slovenia song festivals. This is a festival of Slovenian entertainment music with a 56-year long tradition. It started back in 1962, when Stane Mancini ended up being then first Slovenian song festival winner with the song Mandolina (Mandolin), and the festival ended in 1988. RTV Slovenia revived the festival in 1998. In 2015, the festival became a part of the Days of Slovenian popular music for the first time since the festival reopened. This year it was yet again organized independently.
