Resolving a housing issue is especially a big problem for young people because non-profit apartments are significantly lacking. Though this is a public tender for the allocation of purpose-built rental made by the City of Ljubljana for young people between the ages 18 and 29.

In the tender, they offered 30 apartments with non-profit rent, for a period of 10 years. The apartments are assigned to three groups; young individuals, young couples and young families. From each group, they selected ten lucky winners.

Disappointment and tears of happiness
There was a lot of tension at the drawing. A lot of disappointments and even some cheering and tears of happiness. The ones who were selected to receive an apartment said that they're happy because they no longer have to pay such a high rent. »The costs are really high, and it will be much easier now. We won't have to worry about being thrown out,« said one of the lucky winners.

»We wanted to support younger generation, who are now on their way to becoming independent. At least with a solution to the tenancy of ten years,« explained the director of the Housing Fund of the Republic of Slovenia, Sašo Rink.

The mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovič expressed the hope, to prepare a similar tender in the following year.
