Increased levels of fine particles in the air also endanger people's health. Slovenia has been in violation of European regulation regarding air quality since 2004. The government recently adopted a plan to increase the quality of air in the most polluted regions in Murska Sobota, Maribor, Celje, Ljubljana, Kranj, Novo Mesto and the Zasavje region.

Detailed plans have already been set up for all the regions in question except Ljubljana. A special fund amounting to EUR 10m will be available for the implementation of the measures. The biggest concentration of fine particles in the air are caused by fireworks and heating.
