The Centre of Water Sports is located between the Grande canal and the end of the Semedela promenade. Fifteen local organizations and societies are participating in the Active Koper project, organizing different sport activities within the park.

The contents of the sport park will be expanded in time, and visitors will be able to choose from a number of activities, e.g. kayak, canoe, sup, sailing, diving, fishing, riding boats, and many other activities both on water and on dry land.

Workshops of all kinds and educational contents for children will be also organized in the park. It is intended both for experienced athletes and beginners who wish to be introduced to different water sports. The park will be open every weekend until September 4, and the visitors can register for the activities either through the web application, or on the spot, at the information point in the park. The future plans the municipality of Koper has for the sport park include also a beach volley court, and a skate park.

The grand plans for the Semedela promenade had been made a long time ago, when the mayor of Koper promised a beach resembling the beach Dubrovnik. However, the plans did not come true. The municipality blames bureaucratic demands that must be complied with before spreading sea gravel.

Therefore we inquired at the Ministry of the Environment whether the placement of the water park complies with the legislation. The Directorate for Water had received no application for an agreement; it is considered by the municipality that it is not required. The placement of rafts with the length below 15 metres was approved by the Maritime Administration.
